Get Your Chocolate Fix!

Dessert without the Guilt?

It’s hard to find a sweet treat out there that satisfies a chocolate attack and isn’t a diet disaster. A lot of ‘low cal, low fat’ diet desserts are, to me, not even worth it.  The other day however, I stumbled upon a delicious dessert that left me feeling satisfied– and with little guilt! Made famous by the popular Hungry Girl blog, my first experience with VitaTops did not disappoint.  Of course I went for the chocolate, but they have so many great flavors to try! Click here to see all their flavors.

They all have around 100 calories and about 2 grams of fat. How is that for a delicious, and guilt free, dessert!

Today’s Lunch: Chickpea Salad

If you need a quick and easy lunch idea to help you get through that mid week slump– I have the perfect recipe for you.

I made it the night before and chilled it in the fridge; the ingredients were cheap to buy and it took 10 minutes to make!

Ali’s Chickpea Salad

chickpeas (1 can is more than enough)

Fresh Spinach

One roma tomato, chopped

1/2 cucumber, chopped

1/4 red onion, diced

a few olives

lemon juice

balsamic (use whatever kind you’d like)

black pepper to taste.

I loved my salad just the way it was, but the best part about this recipe is that you can play around with it and spice it up or tone it down anyway you’d like!

It’s very filling. I had about 3/4 of a can leftover  from a different recipe I made that I used to make the salad in the first place, and I couldn’t even finish that!

It’s quick, it’s healthy, it’s guilt-free, and it’s delicious!

To Chew or Not to Chew: The Chia Seed.

A few weeks back, my mother gave me a call telling me she had sent a new ‘superfood’ in the mail: Chia Seeds.

I’m guessing many of you, like me at the time, are confused and have no idea what a Chia Seed is.

After receiving my package and trying out this mysterious Chia Seed myself, I liked them so much I decided that spreading the word was absolutely necessary.

Chia seeds have been dubbed an ancient Aztec superfood, extremely high in anti-oxidants and omega-3s Chia Seeds are essentially nuts, and the perfect addition to a healthy and balanced diet. The seed packs in 11 grams of fiber per ounce, as well as calcium to help build strong bones. The also have been found to aid in preventing diseases and give you a natural energy boost.

Perhaps most exciting, the Chia Seed is a natural appetite suppressant, and therefore has been thought to help assist in weight loss. It helps you cut cravings and stabilize your blood sugar, filling you up and helping you not over eat.

Search the web–everyone is raving about Chia Seeds. Of course, there are a few skeptics out there, especially when it comes to Chia Seeds aiding in weight loss. Regardless of their ability in helping you loss weight or not however, Chia Seeds are still a fantastic and healthy addition to a balanced diet.

Try sprinkling them on your cereal or yogurt in the morning, or adding them to your salad at lunch!
